VeliaBot

What VeliaBot is, which pages it reads and how to contact us if you see it in your website's logs.

If you got here from your server logs, you have seen VeliaBot, the program Velia Web uses to check the security and compliance of websites for the agencies that use the service.

It identifies itself with this user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; VeliaBot/0.1; +https://veliaweb.com/bot)

What it does

VeliaBot only reads what any visitor sees:

  • the home page and the legal pages (legal notice, privacy, cookies);
  • the headers sent by the server and the security certificate;
  • the software versions the website shows publicly.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t submit forms or try to get into private areas.
  • It doesn’t run vulnerability scans or attack tests.
  • It doesn’t crawl the whole website: it reads a few pages, one at a time.

Analyses of the same website are shared and remain valid for up to 30 days, so VeliaBot visits rarely. Only websites verified by their agency are checked every week.
